Grace of Matilija Poppy

Matilija poppies are magical.  I love the way light and shadow plays off the parchment-like petals.Image

As if that is not enough they literally dance in the slightest breeze.

Their scent is one of the sweetest and most delicate you can imagine.

Many people here know them as ‘fried egg plants’.  Even if that is what they resemble, to me that is a misnomer and an indignity to this graceful, elegant member of the floral kingdom.

Columbine

I love columbine.Image

The flowers look like fairy bells or hats for little elves.  They are just such  happy flowers.  I am enjoying the fact that this is one of the best Spring seasons we have ever had here with the variety of blooms and the sheer numbers of flowers on each plant.  Glorious!Image
